On the 23rd of June, the final presentation for the 3D printing competition took place. The competition focused on the optimization of a structure from an airplane. The aim was to construct a lever as light as possible, taking into account a given design space and a maximum deformation. After an introduction into the aspects of additive manufacturing and a software recommendation, the students have started independently. The components were made of the material FIT PA. The students have found various approaches to the topology optimization. The basis for the final assessment was a static test. The jury included Dirk Humfeldt (Airbus Operations), Jutta Abulawi (HAW) and Tayfun Süle (bionic studio).
Because of the different ways of thinking and ideas, the competition has been a lot of fun. And also the students have gained practical insights into the everyday life of an engineer.
